Client-Centered, IFS-Informed Clinical Counselling White Rock, British Columbia

Hello and welcome! My name is Daniel Baljak. I am a registered clinical counsellor (#20620) with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC). I offer individual and family (2-3 people) counselling services to prospective clients of all ages, backgrounds, and identities. My counselling philosophy is that every person has the internal resources to manage overwhelm, identify achievable goals, create forward momentum, and work towards more joyous and meaningful lives. I believe that this can be achieved through client-centered guidance, where we work together to create a safe space for internal mapping, self-awareness, and healthy processing of emotions and experiences.

I am an Internal Family Systems informed therapist and use “parts work” as a way to help clients structure and make sense of their internal landscape. Parts work encourages us to accept and integrate all thoughts, emotions, feelings, images, body sensations, and dreams through curious, compassionate reflection. When we learn how to explore and understand the sometimes conflicting motivations that our internal parts have, it can lead to increased calmness, clarity, and sense of purpose.

As a current elementary school counsellor and past special education teacher, I have extensive experience working with children and youth experiencing neurodiversity, behavioural challenges, trauma backgrounds, suicidal ideation, non-suicidal self-injury, and various mental health diagnoses. I am passionate about working with children, youth, and young adults who are living with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. I understand that these conditions can have significant impacts on communication, emotional regulation, social skills, behaviour, learning, and self-esteem, which can lead to acute mental health challenges.

I am also passionate about mental health work for men’s issues, helping men with communication, relationships, parenting, divorce, stress management, and self-exploration.
